Rega Unveils the Reference Mercury Pre-amplifier and Solis Power Amplifier
Rega recently offered a glimpse into its next generation of high-fidelity electronics at the Acoustica Show, held at the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel in Chester on the 2nd and 3rd of November. The event marked the first public preview of the much-anticipated Reference Mercury Pre-amplifier and Solis Power Amplifier, setting the stage for what promises to be a significant addition to the Rega reference range.
These two new products were demonstrated alongside the highly regarded Aura phono stage and Naia turntable, providing visitors with an opportunity to experience the synergy between Rega’s cutting-edge electronics and turntable systems. Rega staff were present throughout the weekend, offering insights into the engineering principles and design philosophies that underpin the company’s approach to audio reproduction.
The Mercury Pre-amplifier represents a meticulous commitment to signal integrity and usability. With fully discrete symmetrical circuitry at its core, the Mercury ensures an uncompromised signal path, supported by a discrete headphone amplifier for high-quality personal listening. For digital enthusiasts, the pre-amplifier includes a high-performance DAC featuring S/PDIF and USB inputs, all displayed through a full-colour IPS screen. Other thoughtful features include a standby mode for energy efficiency and a custom-designed, backlit remote handset that reflects the premium nature of the unit.
Paired seamlessly with the Mercury, the Solis Power Amplifier delivers impressive performance with 168 watts into 8 ohms. Like its counterpart, it is designed around fully symmetrical circuitry to maintain the utmost signal purity, with balanced inputs to integrate easily into high-end systems. Practicality and durability are also prioritised, with an audio-detect standby function, short-circuit protection, and thermal cut-out safeguards ensuring reliable operation in various conditions.
The Acoustica Show provided an excellent setting for these new electronics to be heard and appreciated. While there was much excitement about the Mercury and Solis, their introduction felt like a natural evolution within Rega’s portfolio, demonstrating the brand’s ability to innovate while staying true to its core values. Those unable to attend the show can look forward to hearing more about these new products in the coming months as they prepare for release.
The Solis is nearing production, with the Mercury set to follow shortly. Both products are expected to be available in the first quarter of 2025.
